Singapore PM appoints new minister for finance

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will make changes to his cabinet and other political appointments, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said on Monday.

PMO said in a statement that Heng Swee Keat will resume his responsibilities as Minister for Finance, which PM Lee had revealed in his speech at National Day Rally on Sunday.

Lawrence Wong, who is concurrently Singapore's Minister for National Development, will be appointed as the Second Minister for Finance.

Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam will relinquish his appointment as the Covering Minister for Finance, according to the statement.

Sim Ann will be appointed Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Trade and Industry and relinquish her appointment in the Ministry of Finance. PMO said she remains Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth.

PMO said these changes will take effect on Monday. Endit
