2.6 pct of passengers ride free in Germany

Xinhua, August 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

Some 2.6 percent of passengers evaded tickets when taking public transports in Germany last year, a survey said Friday.

The rate of freeloaders has not changed nationwide compared with the year before last, despite the penalty was raised from 40 to 60 euros once the behavior was caught since last July.

Meanwhile in Dortmund, Hanover and Nuremberg, the rate was reported higher, in Berlin even reached six percent, according to the survey by local financial magazine "Wirtschaftswoche".

The economic loss was accordingly estimated to be 250 million euros across the country. (1 euro = 1.13 U.S. dollars) Endit
