Standing NATO Maritime Group Two (SNMG2) made a port visit in Alexandria, Egypt, NATO announced Wednesday.

During the visit, NATO Maritime Command Deputy Commander Bruno Paulmier met with Egypt's naval commander. They discussed opportunities for the Egyptian Navy and NATO maritime units to work together and learn from each other.

Egyptian naval forces held a joint military drill with NATO's navy while on the multiple day visit, as part of military cooperation between the two naval forces.

The NATO maritime command delegation also visited an Egyptian anti-submarine frigate.

"NATO and Egypt have many similar interests in maintaining security and stability in the eastern Mediterranean, I hope this visit will be one of many developing our relationship with the Egyptian Navy," a NATO statement quoted Paulmier as saying.

Egypt is one of seven countries of the Mediterranean region involved in NATO's Mediterranean Dialogue. Endit
