Militants plotting strike on Singapore declared suspect

Xinhua, August 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

Indonesian national police has declared five out of six militants plotting rocket launches on Singapore's Marina Bay from Indonesia as suspects, a police officer disclosed here on Tuesday.

The six persons were captured on Friday, but the police release one of them as the person was not part of the group's five militants, National Police spokesman Boy Rafli Amar said.

The police have carried out raids on the hideouts of the five militants and seized assembled weapons, arrows, computers and other evidence, Amar said.

"The computer is being investigated to find out precisely the communication of the militants with Bahrun Naim,"he said at the police headquarters, referring to an Indonesian militant engaging in IS'terrorist activities in Syria.

The militants had plotted to launch rockets from Indonesia's Batam Island to nearby target, according to the police.

One of the suspects is the leader of the militants' group in Batam Island, the so-called Kitabah Gongong Rebus (KGR) group, police said.

The leader with initial GDR took responsibility for receiving and channelling funds from Naim in Syria and is also in charge of facilitating Indonesian nationals wishing to engage in holy war in the Middle East country, police said. Endit
