Namibia seeks int'l support to end poaching

Xinhua, August 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

Namibian President Hage Geingob has invited the support of friendly nations to halt the killing of protected species in the country.

"Namibia has been experiencing increased poaching of endangered species like the Rhinoceros, which we condemn," he said.

Geingob said this in a statement at the opening of the 8th Heads of Mission Conference, which is being held under the theme "Enhancing Economic Diplomacy for Prosperity", in Windhoek on Monday.

The conference provides an opportunity for the missions to exchange views and experiences in order to continue and act as a platform to strategize as a government so that they can strengthen the implementation of the foreign policy.

Geingob said the representatives abroad need to pursue various actions and strategies, which include vigorous pursuit of economic diplomacy; seeking the support of the international community against the war on poverty and seeking support for Namibia's conservation efforts and to mitigate climate change.

Furthermore, Geingob called on mission heads to promote the representation of the country's national interests around the world.

"You have a role to play in telling our success story in conservation," he added.

Meanwhile, the president also said the conference should also serve as a forum to learn from the lessons of the past and to chart a future course informed by the present realities and possible future scenarios. Endit
