The malware that recently attacked Vietnam's national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines has also penetrated the websites of the country's government agencies, corporations, banks and research institutes, as well as universities, according to local Internet security firm BKAV on Tuesday.
In its report of analyzing malicious code attacking Vietnam Airlines' websites in late July, BKAV said that the malware disguises itself as anti-virus software after breaking into computers.
The malware will connect with a command and control server through the domain Name.dcsvn.org (an imitation of the website of the Communist Party of Vietnam). In which, a "name" can be customized as the specific names of organizations or businesses, reported local Vietnam News on Tuesday.
The malware is capable of collecting passwords and enabling hackers to control computers.
BKAV's network security vice chairman Ngo Tuan Anh said his group had alerted the government agencies, business groups, banks and research institutes, besides universities for several times since it detected the spyware in Vietnam's computer network in mid-2012.
If discovering any malware, administrators should inform relevant agencies to scan the whole computer system at once, he advised.
On July 29, hackers carried out several cyberspace attacks on the information technology systems of Vietnam's two biggest airports and the official website of the Vietnam Airlines. Endit
