Xinhua, August 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

Runner Amel Tuka will be the flagbearer of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) at the opening ceremony of the Rio Olympic Games, local media reported on Thursday.

The 25-year-old athlete from Kakanj has achieved great results in 800m races. The greatest success he achieved was last year at the World Championships in Beijing where he won a bronze medal. At the recently held European Championships in Amsterdam he finished fourth.

"It is a special honor to carry the flag at the opening ceremony. I am so proud and this is just another motivation to prove myself. I am aware that everyone expects a good result, and I am determined to make the best result as possible. I want an Olympic medal and I will do my best to win it," said Tuka.

Eleven athletes from BiH will compete in the 31st Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

BiH's medal hope is expected from Amela Tuka and judoka Larisa Ceric. Endit
