U.S. Secretary of State to visit Argentina

Xinhua, August 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry will visit Argentina on Thursday to meet with his counterpart Susana Malcorra, in order "to continue the renewed bilateral work agenda established by both countries," the Argentinean Foreign Ministry announced Wednesday.

Kerry, who met Malcorra in Washington in March, will lay a traditional floral wreath in San Martin Square, to honor Argentinean independence hero Jose de San Martín.

The two diplomats will then hold a private meeting, before hosting a meeting of foreign ministry officials from both sides, followed by a press conference.

During the 24-hour visit, Kerry is also set to meet with President Mauricio Macri and attend a bilateral trade summit with the Argentinean-American Chamber of Commerce.

Ties between Washington and Buenos Aires picked up speed in March during the official visit to Argentina by U.S. President Barack Obama, who expressed support for the economic changes introduced by Macri. Endit
