1st LD Writethru: Emirates flight from India crash-lands in Dubai

Xinhua, August 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

An Emirates airline flight from India, with some 275 people on board, mostly Indians, crash-landed at the Dubai airport Wednesday.

However, there have been no reports of any casualty so far in the crash of the plane that took off from the southern Indian city of Thiruvanathapuram for Dubai this morning.

The airline has confirmed the incident. "Emirates can confirm that an incident happened at Dubai International Airport on 3rd August 2016 at about 12:45 pm local time," it tweeted.

"There were 275 passengers and crew on board. Our main priority now is the safety and well-being of all involved," the airline added.

However, according to the Dubai government media office, all passengers were evacuated safely and no injuries have been reported so far.

Local TV channels claimed that the Boeing 777 plane landed hard on its tail and its right landing gear failed, and after crash-landing, it was partially destroyed in flames.

Images on TV channels and social media showed thick smoke rising from the top of a burning plane at the Dubai international airport.

Flights from Dubai have been delayed and others heading for Dubai have been diverted to Sharjah, reports said. Endit
