Spain's Rafael Nadal has all but confirmed he will play in the Olympic Games tennis tournament despite ongoing fitness concerns.
"I'm not 100 percent but I want to play. These are the Olympic Games," Nadal told reporters after his second of two practice sessions in Rio on Tuesday.
The 14-time Grand Slam winner had not played for more than two months because of a wrist injury. He only resumed training in Mallorca late last month.
Team captain Conchita Martinez said Nadal had made progress in his battle to be fit for the Aug. 5-21 Games in Rio.
"He is already better than he was in Mallorca and he wants to play," Martinez said
Nadal won gold at the Beijing 2008 Games but missed the London Olympics four years later because of a knee problem.
The 30-year-old, who is expected to be Spain's flag-bearer at the opening ceremony on Friday, is scheduled to compete in the singles and also the mixed doubles with French Open winner Garbine Muguruza. Endit
