German veteran Hausding to be the only diver competing in three events at Rio Olympics

Xinhua, August 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

German diver Patrick Hausding will be the only diver to compete in three events at Rio, expecting to increase his medal chances at his third Olympic Games.

Hausding, 27, won a silver from the synchronized 10m platform at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, but failed to stand on the podium at London four years ago.

While most of the divers won't compete more than two events in a competition, Hausding decided to take part in the 3m springboard, synchronized 3m springboard and synchronized 10m platform at Rio.

"I couldn't believe that I won the medal. It's the biggest achievement you can get as an Olympic sportsman and I want to repeat that feeling,"said Hausding here on Tuesday.

"The more events you do, the more chances for medals you have," Hausding said. "I have three chances to win a medal and if there's just one podium place in the end, I would be totally satisfied."

Hausding also competed in three events at the Beijing Olympics and four editions of the World Championships.

"The good thing is you can always say, 'I have that medal already,' but that's not the aim. I'm not coming here to say I have a medal already. That would be the wrong aim to set myself,"said Hausding. Endit
