7 killed in vehicle collision in western Algeria

Xinhua, August 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

A deadly road accident on Tuesday killed at least seven people in the western province of Mascara, APS news agency reported.

The accident occurred in early Tuesday morning, when two cars collided on the National Road 6 linking the locality of El Hacine and downtown Mascara, the report said, citing a firefighting department statement.

The report said seven passengers, including four women and three children, were killed on the spot, while a man was seriously injured.

An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident.

Deadly traffic accidents are recurrent in this North African nation.

Last week, seven people were killed and 28 others injured when a bus crashed in the province of Medea.

The most tragic accident in years occurred earlier in June, when 33 people were killed and 22 others injured after a bus collided with a semi trailer in the south of the country.

The national center for prevention and road safety said 1,919 people were killed and 21,290 others injured in traffic accidents in Algeria during the first half of 2016. Endit
