UK to provide Jordan 190 million pounds in funding

Xinhua, August 2, 2016 Adjust font size:

Jordan and the UK on Monday signed an agreement under which the UK will provide the Arab county with up to 190 million pounds (around 250 million U.S. dollars), Petra News Agency reported.

Of the total, around 80 million pounds will be in soft loans with zero interest rate, the report said.

Jordan's Minister of Planing and International Cooperation Emad Fakhoury said the funding will support the Jordanian economy and help reduce pressure on Jordan amidst influx of Syrian refugees.

Several projects in fields of water, infrastructure and education will be implemented through the funding, the report said.

The minister said the funding will support host communities of Syrian refugees. There are some 1.3 million Syrian refugees in Jordan. Endit
