Roundup: Afghans widely condemn truck bomb in Kabul

Afghans from all walks of life have strongly condemned the devastating truck bomb that struck Kabul on Monday early morning terming it as a coward terrorist act.

The shocking attack, which left four people including a policeman and three attackers dead, has caused panic among the war-weary Afghans and drawned hatred and condemnation.

"This is heinous crime against humanity and I condemn this coward terrorist act in its strongest term," Afghan government Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah said in a statement released here hours after the deadly bombing.

Blaming the enemies of peace for organizing the deadly truck bombing, Abdullah in the statement noted that enemies of peace by organizing terrorist activities want to destroy peace and stability in Afghanistan.

The attack, which started at 01:30 a.m. local time targeting on a foreign guest house the North Gate camp in Dispachari locality of Pul-e-Charkhi area, Monday morning, according to Kabul police chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi, killed four people including one policeman and three attackers while three more police officers were injured in the following blast and firefight which lasted for hours.

According to Rahimi no civilian including those present at the guest house frequented by foreigners has been harmed in the attack.

Meantime, an official on the condition of anonymity said that 46 foreigners were present in the guest house during the attack.

Zabihullah Majahid who claims to speak for the Taliban outfit in contact with media outlets claimed that the truck bomb which followed by gunshots killed several foreigners.

However, locals at the site disputed the number of casualties given by Kabul police chief, saying the number might be higher than reported.

Dozens of houses and shops around the blast site were also destroyed badly.

"Attack on civilians is not justifiable and deserve all kinds of condemnation," a teacher in Kabul, Mohammad Rasoul told Xinhua.

"The only outcome of terrorist attacks is killing people and destroying the country. Therefore I strongly condemn this attack, calling upon the Taliban and other militant groups to halt terror activities," another Kabul resident Noor Khan said. Endit
