JSE closes lower Thursday

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) on Thursday closed weaker in choppy trading, led by losses in financial and industrial shares.

The JSE all share closed 0.90 percent lower to 53282.16 points, the blue-chip top 40 Index shed 1.03 percent, Industrial Index dropped 1.33 percent, and Financial Index lost 1.17 percent.

Although financial and industrial stocks weighed down the broader share market weaker, the resources shares were up because of higher metal prices.

At the close of trading, the South African rand was trading at R14.23 to the U.S. dollar, R18.65 to the British pound, and R15.78 to the euro.

Gold had fallen 0.27 percent to sell at 1337.28 dollars an ounce. Endit
