2nd LD Writethru:8 injured as blast hits security forces convoy in SW Pakistan

At least eight people were injured when a bomb went off near a convoy of security forces in Pakistans southwest Quetta city on Wednesday night, local Urdu media and officials said.

Sarfraz Bugti, Home Minister of Balochistan province with Quetta as the capital city, confirmed that four security personnel were also injured in the attack.

He said that the convoy of paramilitary troops Frontier Corps (FC) was on its routine patrolling across the city when it was targeted by a remote controlled device at Sariab Road area of Quetta.

He said that some unknown militants blew up explosives materials fixed on a flyover as soon as the security forces vehicle passed by it, and fled the scene.

The injured people have been shifted to a nearby hospital where two of them are said to be in critical condition.

Bugti said that if the doctors suggested, the critically injured people will be airlifted to the countrys southern port city of

Karachi for better medical treatment.

The Home Minister said that four vehicles including two jeeps of FC, the flyover and a nearby bakery were partially destroyed in the blast.

The bomb disposal squad said that an estimated two to four kg of explosives were used in the blast.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

Police cordoned off the area for investigations.

The Chief Minister of Balochistan province Sanaullah Zehri condemned the blast and vowed to root out militancy from the region.

He also directed hospital authorities to provide best possible medical treatment to the injured people.
