Togolese police have seized 3.6 tons of cannabis in Wawa prefecture, 150 kilometers north of the capital Lome, local media reported on Wednesday.

The drugs were seized on Monday while being transported in a vehicle.

The packets of cannabis were carefully wrapped and hidden under charcoal, regional police chief Kolani Nanangue said.

Three Togolese nationals including the driver, his conductor and the middleman were arrested. Two other people who were in the vehicle managed to flee.

Nanangue hailed the good collaboration of members of the public who helped to ensure a successful operation. Endit
