Majority of Lithuanians hold negative views on Brexit: poll

More than 60 percent of the Lithuanian residents have negative opinion on Britain's referendum Brexit outcome, an opinion poll showed on Wednesday.
The poll conducted by local business consulting and research company Baltijos Tyrimai showed that 22 percent of respondents have clearly negative opinion on Brexit, 40 percent stated they had more negative than positive view on the issue.
Seventeen percent of respondents saw Brexit as more positive than negative outcome, the survey showed. Five percent expressed their clearly favorable opinion about Brexit, while 16 percent of respondents did not express their opinion.
Aged 50 and less, people with university degree and those with household revenues exceeding 1,000 euros (1,099 U.S. dollars) per family were more often unfavorable towards Brexit than other surveyed groups.
Among those in favor of Britain referendum's outcome were residents of smaller Lithuanian towns, people with secondary education, as well as nationals other than Lithuanians, also people claiming they find themselves in bad financial position.
Nearly 25 percent of interviewees claimed they had at least one member of family working in Britain, 65 percent said that they had relatives and acquaintances living in the country.
Respondents were also asked to express their opinion about the European Union, 14 percent said they were clearly in favor of the EU, 58 percent noted they had more positive than negative views about the bloc. Three percent said they had clearly negative opinion on the EU, while 19 percent respondents' view was more negative than positive.
The poll was conducted during July 1 to 14.
According to Lithuania Statistics office, around 124,000 Lithuanian nationals currently live in Britain. Endit
