1st LD: Huge blast rocks Azerbaijan armory

Xinhua, July 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

Windows were shattered and homes shaken on Tuesday in the town of Shirvan in Azerbaijan, 125 km west of the capital Baku, after a huge blast rocked the Araz armory owned by the country's Ministry of Defense Industry.

Several powerful explosions took place at 15:35 p.m. local time (1035GMT), forcing nearby residents to leave their homes, the ministry said in a statement.

According to local media, the fire brought casualties and injuries to onsite workers, although there are no reports on the number of victims so far.

More than five ambulances raced to the scene to send the injured to the local hospital.

The Ministry of Defense Industry told the media that an investigation is underway. Endi
