About 53 militants were killed after Afghan army, police and intelligence agency personnel launched wide-scale operations within the past 24 hours, said a statement of the Defense Ministry on Monday.
A total of 16 militants were also wounded and three others were detained by the joint forces during the raids conducted in 10 of country's 34 provinces, the statement providing daily operational updates added.
Some six Islamic State (IS) militants, a Taliban insurgents' shadow district governor for Musayi district of Kabul province and a Taliban local commander were among the killed, according the statement.
The joint forces supported by army's artillery and warplanes also found weapons and defused dozens of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and landmines during the raids.
The statement also confirmed loss of nine army personnel over the same period.
The Taliban-led attacks and violence have declined over the recent weeks as Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations and NATO-led forces increased drone strikes against the militants across the country.
The Taliban and IS militants have yet to make comments. Enditem
