Party officials urged to take the lead in flood relief

Xinhua, July 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

A senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official on Sunday called on Party officials in flood-hit regions to take the lead in disaster rescue and relief.

Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at a meeting on the CPC's campaign to instill Party doctrines and values in members, in Lanzhou, capital of northwest China's Gansu Province.

The flood rescue and relief work should be regarded as a test ground for CPC officials to apply the teachings, Liu said, adding that they should set the example for ordinary people.

Several provinces in China have been hit by floods and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall. Torrential rain and floods left 130 people dead and 110 others missing in north China's Hebei Province, while about 250,000 people were still trapped by flood in Tianmen of central China's Hubei Province.

The education campaign, pushing CPC members to study the CPC Constitution and rules, should be incorporated in daily work and life of CPC members, Liu said.

As a priority of the campaign, the Party leadership is working to improve the management of Party organs and training of officials in poverty-stricken regions, he said.

He stressed that leading officials at poverty-stricken counties should take poverty alleviation as their upmost task and should not stop till the task is fulfilled.

Liu also urged officials to study the important speech that President Xi Jinping gave on the 95th founding anniversary of CPC on July 1, which answered key issues concerning the development of CPC and the country, and served as a guideline for the education campaign. Endi
