IOC strips Turkish weightlifter of 2008 silver medal

Xinhua, July 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

The International Olympic Committee on Friday announced it ordered Turkish weightlifter Sibel Ozkan to return the sliver medal she won at the 2008 Olympic Games for doping-rule violation.

Ozkan, 28, came second in the -48kg category in Beijing, but she was caught after the IOC ordered a retest of samples from both the 2008 Games and 2012 Olympics in London.

The IOC said she had tested positive for the metabolites of anabolic steroid stanozolol.

Earlier on Friday, the IOC reported 45 new doping cases from the two previous Olympic Games after more than 1,200 samples, notably those of past medal winners, were reanalysed, bringing the total number of positive drug tests to 98. Enditem
