Kenya bourse 20 share index close lower Thursday

The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) 20 Share Index slid five points Thursday to 3,515.10.

The index, which measures performance of top companies at the bourse, has been on downward trajectory losing close to 100 points in the past week due to decline in share prices of key stocks.

Thursday, some 32 million shares worth 7.6 million U.S dollars were traded at the Nairobi bourse, down from 46 million valued at 10 million dollars.

Kenya's leading telecom Safaricom for the third consecutive day was the top trader moving 21.4 million shares after going up 0.6 percent to trade slightly above 0.18 dollars, mainly foreign buys.

In the banking sector, a total of 5.1 million shares were traded mainly foreign sales, with Equity Bank moving 2.5 million shares at 0.37 dollars.

Cooperative Bank, on the other hand, went down to 0.15 dollars to move 1.2 million shares. KenolKobil was the top trader in the energy sector moving 3.6 million shares. Endit
