Austria has deported 5,163 asylum seekers in the first half of the year, a 23 percent increase over the same period in 2015, Austria Press Agency reported Wednesday.

Quoting the figures provided by the Interior Ministry, the report said that by nationality, the largest number of the deported asylum seekers were Iraqi nationals at 1,015, followed by Afghans (583), and Iranians (445).

It was further noted that 3,195 persons, or 62 percent of the total, departed voluntarily, an increase of 24 percent from the number over 2015.

The number of forced deportations, persons who had to be forced to leave the country, also increased by a significant 23 percent to 1,968 persons.
