Iran urges self-restraint, peaceful settlement on Kashmir issue

Xinhua, July 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

Iran's Foreign Ministry urged self-restraint on Kashmir issue on Tuesday, saying clashes in Kashmir can only be settled peacefully, Tehran Times daily reported.

The ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi expressed regret over the recent killings in Kashmir.

Protests have been held in Kashmir since July 9 over the killing of Burhan Wani, a top figure in the pro-independence Hizbul Mujahideen group, in a shootout with Indian troops the previous day.

Clashes have left 42 people dead and about 3,500 people injured, according to Tehran Times. Endit
