International law cannot help solve complicated political issues such as disputes over the South China Sea, said Professor Zheng Yongnian, director of the East Asian Institute at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

ENTEBBE -- China on Saturday evacuated some of its embassy staff and some citizens trapped in the recent fighting in South Sudanese capital, Juba.
Major General Su Guanghui, acting director of the Peacekeeping Affairs Office of the Chinese Defense Ministry, and his delegation who arrived Saturday morning in Juba evacuated 17 embassy staff, 12 members of the Chinese medical team and 20 people from Chinese companies. (Uganda-South Sudan )

MANILA -- A new Asia Development Bank (ADB) report said Monday China is "on track to meet earlier growth projections" of 6.5 percent for 2016 and 6.3 percent for 2017 despite weak global prospects and Brexit.
In East Asia, growth forecasts are unchanged at 5.7 percent in 2016 and 5.6 percent in 2017, with China, the world's second largest economy, on track to meet projected growth of 6.5 percent in 2016 and 6.3 percent in 2017, the Manila-based bank said in a statement. (Philippiines-ADB-China)
