Tokyo shares close higher for 5th straight day on strong U.S. stocks, China data

Tokyo shares closed higher Friday for a fifth straight day, with the Nikkei index reaching a roughly one-month high, on strong U.S. stocks and better-than-expected data of Chinese economy.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 111.96 points, or 0.68 percent, from Thursday at 16,497.85.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 5.94 points, or 0.45 percent, higher at 1,317.10.
Gainers were led by insurance, securities and miscellaneous product issues.
The day's turnover was about 3,113.0 billion yen (around 29.34 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
