Slovak police help combat illegal migration in Macedonia

Xinhua, July 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

A total of 25 Slovak police officers are currently helping the police in Macedonia in the fight against illegal migration, Slovak Police spokesperson Denisa Baloghova said on Tuesday.

Slovak police officers along with local observation patrols are carrying out border surveillance on foot or in vehicles, she informed.

"Slovak police officers perform their duties in their own uniforms and equipment. Their work is being carried out in line with Macedonia's laws and only in the presence of a member of the Macedonian police," Baloghova added.

Although Macedonia isn't a member of the European Union, it's located on the so-called Balkan route used by migrants on their way to western European countries. Slovak police officers have now been sent out three times to help the Macedonian police deal with illegal migration. Endit
