The JSE closes firmer, with gains across most sector

Shares on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) were on Tuesday with gains in financial shares rising.

On Tuesday, rising financial shares led gains across most sectors, with the exception of gold miners which lost 0.96 percent. The all share closed 0.72 percent to 52,547.52 points.

The blue chip top 40 rose 0.82 percent. Financials rose 1.42 percent and platinums lost 0.68 percent. Resources dropped 0.51 percent.

The South Africa rand was trading at R14.34 to the U.S. dollar, R18.86 to the British pound and R15.86 to the euro.

Banks, financials and retailers on the JSE were in demand after the rand strengthened. Miners took a breather on weaker commodity prices.

Among individual shares BHP Billiton was 1.19 percent up at R 189.27, Kumba Iron Ore rose 4.66 percent to R126.95. Exxaro Resources rocketed 6.52 percent to R R79.85.

Glencore Xstrata whose shares climbed to R35.17 after 1,157 deals traded 4,158,364 shares, a boost in the share price of 6.03 percent. DRD Gold fell 4.99 percent to R11.99.

Investec added 2.69 percent to R87.58. Capitec was 2.10 percent higher at R595.25.

Sanlam lifted 2.69 percent to R 61.86, while Reinet Investments dropped 0.56 percent to R 32.64. Endit
