China narrowly beat Argentina to secure their first victory in 2016 Stankovic Cup

Xinhua, July 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

With the resurgence of former NBA player Yi Jianlian, Chinese national basketball team beat Argentina 60-57 to secure their first victory in this year's Stankovci Cup.

Yi obtained a game-high 20 points and even became the playmaker at one time in the last quarter. His teammate Zhou Qi, who was picked up by Houston Rockets in 2016 NBA draft last month, also delivered several sensational dunks and got 10 points as well as a team-high 7 rebounds.

It was a really closely-fought game as the two sides took the leading position back and forth. Ding Yanyuhang, who scored 12 points, made 4 free throws in the last minute helping the host to seal a tough victory. But the head coach of Chinese team Gong Luming was unsatisfied about the players' performance today.

"It was a hard game. Although we said we should protect the defensive rebounds, the opponent grabbed 20 of them. Besides, we had 24 turnovers in the game," he said.

China, with only 1 win in this year's Stankovic Cup, will take on Nigeria on Saturday to compete for the 3rd place and the championship game will be held on Sunday between Argentina and France. Endit
