Niger strongly condemns recent terror attacks in Saudi Arabia

Xinhua, July 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Nigerien government on Thursday strongly condemned recent terrorist attacks against "Holy Islamic sites" in Saudi Arabia, noting that they showed "the contempt with which terrorists hold human life."

Three suicide attacks were carried out on Monday in three Saudi Arabian cities of Jeddah, Qatif and Medina, leading to the death of several army officers.

The attacks came just a day before the end of the Holy month of Ramadan and on the eve of the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.

The Nigerien government, while expressing its solidarity and sympathy with Saudi Arabia authorities, said "it will abide by joint decisions taken by international organizations, especially the Organization for Islamic Cooperation, to decisively fight against terrorism in all its forms."

For several years, Niger has faced various forms of terrorist threats, especially the deadly attacks perpetrated by Boko Haram group in the country's southeast region, near the Nigerian border, and incursions by armed terrorists from Mali as well as a permanent threat by terror groups and drug traffickers from neighbouring Libya.
