8 militants killed in Afghanistan

Xinhua, July 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

Eight militants had been killed across Afghanistan since early Monday, the country's Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

"Afghan army personnel eliminated five armed militants during military operations in Nimroz and Uruzgan provinces. And three militants become the victim of their own bombs as their Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) went off prematurely in Helmand and Nangarhar provinces over the past 24 hours," the ministry said in a statement.

The Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations against militants since early April after Taliban militants started their so-called annual spring offensive and stepped up attacks across the country.

The statement also confirmed loss of three army personnel throughout the country over the same period. Enditem
