China's top political advisor Yu Zhengsheng highlighted consultative democracy when delivering a report at the Party School of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee on Wednesday.

Yu, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, introduced the history of the CPPCC system to the faculty and students.

The system, which is deeply rooted in history and emerged during the revolution, is a unique socialist practice with Chinese characteristics, Yu said.

The CPPCC is an important mechanism for multiparty cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the CPC and an important means of promoting socialist democracy in China.

The CPPCC works to unite the people and mobilize constructive forces for the national revival, he said.

It also creates an extensive platform of discourse among society, which is an inclusive and effective means to realize democracy, he said.

Yu promised that the current CPPCC National Committee will enhance its abilities and streamline the system.

The 12th CPPCC National Committee has more than 2,000 members and meets annually in March to offer proposals and insights for the government on state affairs. Endi
