Vietnam's population to hit 92.7 mln in 2016: statistics

Vietnam's population is estimated to hit 92.7 million in 2016, up 987,800 people or 1.08 percent compared to that of 2015, said the General Statistics Office (GSO) on Tuesday.

Among the figure, some 32.06 million people live in urban areas, accounting for 34.6 percent of the total population, while the rest of 60.64 million people are living in rural areas, making up 65.4 percent of the national total.

At the same time, some 45.75 million people are male while 46.95 million people are female, said GSO on its website.

As of the end of June 2016, the country's labor force in the working age is estimated to reach 47.5 million people, some 15.9 million of whom are living in urban areas while 31.6 million are in rural areas.

In the first quarter of the year, the unemployment rate of Vietnamese in working age stood at 2.25 percent while that of the second quarter was 2.3 percent.

In the first half of 2016, the unemployment rate of Vietnamese labor in working age is 2.27 percent, said the office. Endit
