Argentina beats U.S. 4-0 in Copa America's semis

Xinhua, June 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

With the help of Lionel Messi, Argentina routed the U.S. side 4-0 at Houston's NRG Stadium on Tuesday night and qualified for Sunday's Copa America final.

Argentina will vie for the title in East Rutherford, New Jersey, with the winner of Wednesday's semifinal in Chicago between Chile and Colombia.

Messi set up Ezequiel Lavezzi's opening goal just 175 seconds into the game, scored on a free kick and assisted on the second of Gonzalo Higuain's two goals.

"That's what we hope and what we want, to finally achieve that," Messi said, adding that "We deserve it, for all the good work we've been doing all these years." Endit
