Sri Lanka busts int'l heroin smuggling operation

Xinhua, June 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Sri Lankan police on Wednesday busted an international heroin smuggling operation following the arrest of three most wanted drug smugglers.

The police said that three drug smugglers were arrested in the capital Colombo during a pre-dawn operation.

The police said that the drug smugglers were arrested with 1 kg of heroin in their possession. Two vehicles used by the drug smugglers had also been seized.

The drug smugglers are believed to be linked to a notorious drugs dealer in Sri Lanka, Gampola Vidanage Samantha Kumara alias Wele Suda who is now in custody.

Initial investigations revealed that the drug smuggling operation is linked to an international drug smuggling network.

The police said that raids have been launched on the instructions of police Chief Pujith Jayasundara to crackdown on drug deals in the city. Endit
