The following are highlights of major South African media outlets on Tuesday.

-- Democratic Alliance (DA) Pretoria mayoral candidate Solly Msimanga has called on the African National Congress Secretary-General Gwede Mantashe to intervene as party members protested against Thoko Didiza as mayoral candidate for Tshwane.

The plea follows reports that ANC members had barricaded the entrance to Attridegville with burning tyres and rocks, while buses were set alight in Mamelodi. A metro police vehicle was overturned. Police are reported to be patrolling protest hot spots.(Business Day).

-- Pretoria mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa on Monday distanced himself from the violence that broke out following the announcement that Thoko Didiza would be mayoral candidate in the upcoming local government elections.(News24).

-- A new UN report has found that over 65 million people were displaced during 2015 - far more than the entire population of South Africa.

The Global Trends report by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees notes an average of 24 people were forced to flee every 60 seconds in 2015, four times more than a decade earlier as wars, persecution and other factors drove them from their homes. (South African Broadcasting Corporation). Endit
