China stresses coal mine safety in flood season

The work safety watchdog on Tuesday ordered stricter supervision of coal mine facilities after eight people went missing when a mine flooded in southwest China's Guizhou Province.
Days of torrential rain resulted in a river near the Nasheng Coal Mine in Dingxiao Township of Guizhou Province breaking its banks, trapping eight miners who were working underground in a shaft, said the State Administration of Work Safety.
The administration called on local authorities to strengthen rescue work and ensure the timely update of information.
The administration also ordered local authorities to launch safety inspections, remove possible dangers and prevent major accidents.
Heavy rain since Saturday in south China has left 22 people dead and 15 others missing, the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters said on Monday. Endi
