The following are highlights of South African major news outlets on Sunday.

-- The African National Congress has announced its mayoral candidates contesting this year's municipal elections except for Tshwane where a decision could not be reached.

Secretary-general Gwede Mantashe said Gauteng was not happy with the three names submitted for consideration. (Business Day)

-- The Democratic Alliance has launched an online petition against the purchase of a presidential jet, the party said on Saturday.

In a speech prepared for delivery at a youth event in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, DA leader Mmusi Maimane said South Africa was experiencing a "chronic jobs crisis" and that the money for the proposed new plane could be better used in other areas. (News24)
