Uganda to face Kenya in friendly ahead of 2017 Afcon qualifier

Xinhua, June 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

Uganda will host Kenya in an international friendly match slated for Aug. 30 ahead of a crucial 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers.

Edgar Watson, the Uganda FA Chief Executive Officer said on Saturday that the two teams will use the game as a build-up ahead of the last games of the Afcon qualifiers.

Uganda will host Comoros on Sept. 3 in a Group D tie that will decide if they qualify for the Afcon after 39 years absence.

Uganda and Burkina Faso are tied on 10 points in Group D, although the West African side are top because they have a better head to head situation after beating Uganda 1-0.

Uganda brightened its hopes of qualifying for the 2017 Afcon in Gabon after beating Botswana away 2-1 early this month.

Uganda last qualified for Afcon in 1978 when they lost 2-0 in the final to hosts Ghana. Endit
