Malaysia's ruling coalition retains 2 parliamentary seats in by-elections

Xinhua, June 19, 2016 Adjust font size:

Malaysia's ruling coalition retained two parliamentary seats in by-elections on Saturday.

The ruling Barisan Nasional retained a pair of parliamentary seats in Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar with bigger majorities than the general elections in 2013.

Both seats went vacant after the two parliamentarians were killed in a helicopter crash in May during a campaign for the state elections in Sarawak.

As in the state election, the oppositions gave the ruling coalition an edge as they failed to campaign under one banner, fielding multiple candidates in the elections. Endit
