Interview: Enhanced EU-China cooperation on product safety benefits both sides: EU Commissioner

The European Union (EU) and China need to strengthen the cooperation in the field of product safety which is in the interest of both sides, said Vera Jourova, the European Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality on Friday ahead of her visit to China in an exclusive interview with Xinhua.
According to her agenda, the commissioner will begin a five-day visit to China on Saturday, which she hopes will build on EU-China cooperation on product safety and e-commerce.
Her visit will focus on two fields. One is the cooperation in the field of product safety and also in the relation with fast developing e-commerce sphere, and the second is to open the dialogs about EU-China relations in the field of justice.
She emphasized the achievements of cooperation between the EU and China on the Rapid Alert system, "I hope that the visit will start a more intensive communication and create a stronger roof for quicker action and better communication between those two systems," she added.
She believes the product safety is an issue that belong to the strong interest of both sides.
"China is the second biggest trading partner for EU and EU is the biggest trading partner for China and for the development of business relationship, it is very important to have legal certainty, and to have good understanding of each other's system," said Jourova.
In her visit, she will not only speak to the representatives of the agency which deals with justice enforcement and export control, but also visit Alibaba which is the biggest player in the field of e-commerce.
She hopes through communication and cooperation, the two sides could improve the quality of products purchased through e-commerce platform too. Endit
