French FM visits Myanmar

French Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Development, Jean-Marc Ayrault arrived Nay Pyi Taw Thursday night on a three-day visit to Myanmar, according to official report Friday.

Ayrault's Myanmar trip is the first by a French government representative since Myanmar's new government took office.

Ayrault will meet President U Htin Kyaw and his Myanmar counterpart Aung San Suu Kyi during the visit, said the French Embassy in Yangon.

The visit is said to aim at renewing the support of French government for the democratic transition in Myanmar and establishing the new foundation of bilateral relation between the two countries, especially through the French development aid and the financial involvement of the French Development Agency for the years ahead.

The French FM will also meet with Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing , the embassy sources added.

The FM will also meet with Chief Minister of Yangon Region U Phyo Min Thein as. well as French NGOs, Myanmar civil society organizations and French companies, more reports said.

France stood as the 12th largest investor in Myanmar's foreign investment line-up with 541.610 million U.S dollars in the last fiscal year 2015-2016. Endit
