World champions Germany tie Poland 0-0 in EURO 2016 Group C match

Xinhua, June 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

Germany encountered a goalless draw with Poland at the Stade de France here on Thursday in their second round of EURO 2016 Group C match.

Both sides failed to prematurely clinch a place in the knock-out rounds.

Germany were dominant in terms of 63 percent of possession but they didn't hit the target with any of their attempts.

For instance, a good chance for Arkadiusz Milik to score went begging in the 69th minute. The German forward miscued 15 yards out after he and captain Robert Lewandowski had led a flowing move to send Kamil Grosicki down the left.

Another wonderful opportunity for Germany to score came on 71 minute but substitute Andre Schurrle's effort to shoot under pressure at an acute angle was easily saved by Lukasz Fabianski.

Germany have not lost in four encounters with Poland at major tournament finals, keeping clean sheet each time.

The draw was a fair result from a tightly competitive encounter.

Poland will face Ukraine and may seal their place in the knock-out stages even with a draw.

Germany will take on Northern Ireland with a point behind. Endit
