Thailand expects to have 16.6 million foreign visitors throughout this year, said a high-level government official on Wednesday.
That number of foreign travelers to Thailand would account for a 13 percent increase from last year, said Tourism Authority of Thailand governor Yutthasak Supasorn.
Of the 16.6 million visitors, up to 10 million are expected from China throughout this year, compared to nearly eight millions last year, according to the TAT governor.
Thailand expects to make more than 35 billion U.S. dollars in tourism-related earnings throughout this year, he added.
Meanwhile, a Tourist Assistance Center has been set up to help provide safety measures and conveniences for all visitors to Thailand and to cope with any unexpected, untoward incidents which might possibly occur and get them in trouble, said Ministry of Tourism & Sports undersecretary Pongpanu Savetarun.
The government-run center currently opens at Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang international airports as well as in world-renowned seaside resorts of Pattaya, Hua Hin and Koh Samui.
It also opens in the provinces where major tourist attractions are located, including Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Sukhothai, Ubon Ratchathani, Udorn Thani, Kanchanaburi, Ayudhya, Pang-nga, Krabi, Phuket and Songkla. Enditem
