French, British parliaments help Morocco to enhance legislative activities

Xinhua, June 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Moroccan House of Representatives (lower house), the French National Assembly and the British House of Commons launched here Tuesday an institutional twinning project to support Morocco's parliament.

The project aims to assist the Chamber of Representatives of the Moroccan Parliament in the exercise of its powers in the implementation of its "strategic plan to meet standards and to improve its effectiveness in the area of legislative activity."

The European Union will fund the project with a total budget of 1.2 million euros (1.3 million U.S. dollars).

This twinning project for 2016-2018 is meant to build skills in legislation, strengthen control capacity of the government's action and public policies, improve women's participation in the parliamentary work and promote parliamentary diplomacy.

It also provides capacity building in the area of administrative and financial management, strengthens the information system of Morocco's lower house and consolidates its document management system.

It will contribute to boosting cooperation and the interaction between Morocco and the European institutions in the fields of legislative work, defense of fundamental freedoms and good governance. Endit
