Slovak citizenship was acquired by 234 people in 2014, with the highest numbers coming from Ukraine (26.5 percent), then Vietnam (20.9 percent) and the Czech Republic (15.8 percent), announced Ingrid Ludvikova from the European Commission Representation in Slovakia on Tuesday.

The EU-wide report for 2014 published by Eurostat on Tuesday also said the highest rate of naturalization was registered in Sweden (6.3 awarded citizenships per 100 foreign applicants with a residence permit), Hungary (6.2) and Portugal (5.3).

Slovakia (0.4), along with Austria and Latvia, was among the EU countries that granted less than one citizenship for every 100 foreign applicants.

According to Eurostat, as many as 890,000 people adopted the citizenship of an EU member state in 2014, a slight decrease compared to the 981,000 registered the year before. Endit
