Palestinian Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah warned Israel Tuesday of more security deterioration in the Palestinian territories due to the increasing Israeli escalation against the Palestinians.
"Israel insists on escalation and insists on refuting all the international efforts aimed at making peace in the region," Hamdallah said in a press statement following his meeting with Irish Minister of Foreign Affairs Charlie Flanagan.
He said that there has to be an active international intervention to back the French initiative for peace in the Middle East and to set up a timetable for ending the Israeli military occupation and establish a Palestinian state.
Hamdallah insisted that the continuation of the Israeli military occupation of the Palestinian territories is the main reason for endless conflict, and ending the occupation will lead to stability in the region.
The Prime Minister of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) consensus government briefed Flanagan on the ongoing Israeli violations in the Palestinian territories, mainly in the West Bank and east Jerusalem.
Flanagan had earlier met with the PNA Minister of Foreign Affairs Reyad al-Malki in Ramallah. Al-Malki said in a brief press statement that the 2014 decision of the Irish parliament to recognize an independent Palestinian state has to be interpreted to an official Irish declaration.
Flanagan, according to the statement, stressed that his country will keep supporting the Palestinians and their cause, mainly their right of self determination and establish the independent Palestinian state with east Jerusalem as its capital. Endit
