Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Men Sam On said on Wednesday that the China-proposed "One Belt One Road" initiative has been importantly contributing to Cambodia's economic development.

She made the remarks during a meeting here with Sha Hailin, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China Shanghai Municipal Committee and president of the Shanghai Chinese Overseas Friendship Association.

"The China-proposed 'One Belt One Road' initiative will benefit not only Cambodia, but also countries in the region," said Men Sam On, who is also the Minister of National Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection.

She said that the Chinese-invested Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone (SSEZ), which saw the 100th factory open on Tuesday, was a testament to the fruitful cooperation between China and Cambodia under the initiative.

SSEZ is situated in the coastal province of Preah Sihanouk in southwestern Cambodia.

Men Sam On added that Cambodia was very pleased to see good relations and cooperation between the two countries in all fields, particularly in economics, trade, tourism, investment, infrastructure development and energy.

For his part, Sha Hailin said that his visit to Cambodia aimed to further promote bilateral ties and cooperation between China and Cambodia, especially in economics, trade, investment and tourism. Enditem
