China's Wang loses to non-seeded Tai in 2016 Indonesia Open final

Xinhua, June 5, 2016 Adjust font size:

China's former world No.1 Wang Yihan surprisingly lost to non-seeded Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei in the women's singles final of 2016 Indonesia Open Super Series tournament in two straight games here on Sunday.

Tai, who eliminated another Chinese player Wang Shixian in the semifinal, dominated the match from the beginning, secured the title 21-17 and 21-8 in only 34 minutes against Wang Yihan, the 4th seed who was the winner in 2011.

"I know Wang was exhausted from her previous tough matches, while I'm not in such a condition," Tai told a post-match press conference.

Tai expressed her gratitude for the support of Indonesian audience, which she said gave her more power to win the match.

Wang did not show up at the press conference for no particular reason.

In the men's doubles final, Chai Biao/Hong Wei of China were defeated by top seeds Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong of South Korea 13-21, 21-13 and 21-16. Endit
